What’s in my Inbox | T’is the season to be both thankful and creative in your donor communications!

What's in my Inbox

You’re always thankful for your donors and their support, but now, with Thanksgiving just days away, you’ve got the ideal opportunity to communicate your gratitude not only abundantly, but creatively. Whether you want to closely tie the holiday into your message of thanks is totally up to you. But a piece that speaks directly to your donors while conveying warmth and sincerity is important, and directness is, as always, the heart of the matter.

By now, you’re probably aware that I’m an advocate of taking advantage of the holidays whenever possible, and in keeping with my holiday-positive philosophy, I’ve released a physical full-length calendar in bright, vibrant color. From January to December, my calendar manages to encompass each and every special day, and then some. You’ll be rocking it not only when t’is the season, but long after the holidaze are over.

Anyway, what truly inspired me to write about this are some of the fabulous examples that have recently landed in my inbox. Notice the commonality that they share: a true sense of donor focus and direction in conveying their gratitude. You’ll love Heifer International’s use of personalization. Additionally, some of these communications go beyond the traditional email form, incorporating video or using a newsletter structure as a framework for some seriously stellar storytelling.

The possibilities are endless, and the holidays expand your options and create extra room for creativity and good holiday vibes, so why not take advantage of that? If you already tailor your donor communications to the time of year and incorporate a holiday theme, chances are, you’re having fun doing it. Check out some samples below, and feel free to chime in with your own.
