Lessons from MotivateMonday | What You Need to Know About Donor-Advised Funds

October 15, 2021

Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) are playing an increasing –and sometimes controversial—role in philanthropy. Unfortunately, too many nonprofits are unaware of both the enormous opportunities and the potential downsides of DAF’s.

DAFs have been criticized, and legislation has been introduced (but not yet enacted) to regulate them. One criticism is that while donors receive the tax deduction immediately, they can take as long as they wish to recommend gifts from the DAF, depriving charities of the immediate use of the funds. Another is that gifts made through a DAF can be anonymous, with only the DAF fiscal sponsor listed as the contact. Fortunately, our friend Laurence Pagnoni, DAF expert, shared the ins and outs of Donor Advised Funds and how to stay ahead of the curve of their rapid expansion in this episode of MotivateMonday.
