How do you create an annual report with the focus on gratitude for everything your donors are making possible? Intervale Center, a Vermont nonprofit with a mission to strengthen community food systems, wows with their latest Impact Report.

Simple Development Systems’ Member, Mandy Fisher says:

“We’ve come a long way. Here are a couple of things we’ve learned from you –

  • Write donor-focused communication that shares key accomplishments in a friendly, easy-to-understand way
  • Check reading level and readability (using Microsoft Word)
  • Invest in good photos with great captions
  • Take the time and space to tell good stories that tell donors what their generosity has helped us accomplish
  • Educate other stakeholders in the organization about these tactics – they can trust that we know how to write development copy.

We have a unique organization and work on a lot of different projects. Our challenge is telling the whole story. I think we are really learning how to do that by keeping things very simple. Vibrant and healthy farms, land and people is all I really need to say to communicate the impact of the Intervale Center. Gotta love this place and my job!”
