What’s in my Inbox | Kerri’s Pick

When it comes to political campaigns and featuring their respective mailings in any way shape or form, I usually hesitate. Usually. Unless I find them just too darn good not to share. Plus, there’s always the hope I have: that you’ll look past the politics, regardless of your allegiance, and see through to the heart of it. That you can easily understand why I chose to highlight a piece.

Three strong women leaders share their perspectives and are united together in what they all want — for more democratic women to join the ranks alongside them and get elected into political positions. But that’s not the number-one takeaway that I hope will stick with you, believe it or not, as great as that is.

I’ve got my friend Kerri Karvetski to thank for this piece, which is courtesy of Off the Sidelines. Kerri says: This email from Sen. Gillibrand caught my attention starting with the subject line (‘Put on your lipstick, square your shoulders…’). I love the simple, graphical layout and huge “Contribute” button on the bottom. It takes guts to be this spare. I wish more nonprofits would try it.

Yes, it does take guts to be that spare, and I agree with Kerri’s idea that it would behoove nonprofits to do the same. With the races growing more heated as we draw closer to elections, it certainly pays to go with brevity, especially when you do it with a series of images. Once I began subscribing to political emails on a regular basis, the influx of communications became rather overwhelming, especially during election time. So when there are so many of them to go through, it’s so much easier for me when the communications really hit home and don’t take too long to read.
