What’s In My Mailbox | A winning example of an EOY reminder postcard done right

December 18, 2019

If you’ve got the budget, there’s still time for a reminder mailing to those donors who gave last year but not yet this year. This recent post includes a few tips and tricks to help you make that happen in just the nick of time…

Despite limited time, there are still so many directions you can go in for your reminders. One could be a short and sweet letter…

“Last month, I reached out to let you know about…”

Or it could be a postcard, like this one, sent in from Aimee Vance, AKA @NPOfriend on Twitter. Aimee is a 20+ year nonprofit professional, consultant, coach, mentor, and speaker who is dedicated to bringing excellence to the nonprofit community.

Out of all the possible moves to be made, the lowly postcard is an underrated (yet potentially effective!) one. Aimee’s submission is a winning example of how to do it right. This postcard references the holidays. It conveys urgency in a big way, starting with these powerful words…

She just wants her mom for Christmas. You can help bring her home.

The message is short but incredibly powerful, making it clear that the time to give is right now. And the imagery takes it to yet another level. This is a piece that generates a lot of impact, and does so during a critical time. Check out the postcard example below…
